**Serena Williams Shows Protective Side as Venus Williams Teams Up With Leylah Fernandez**
Serena Williams once again proved she’s the ultimate big sister.
The tennis legend, who retired in 2022, was in the stands as her sister **Venus Williams** partnered with **Leylah Fernandez** in the women’s doubles draw at the 2025 U.S. Open on August 30. Serena’s reaction to Venus’ new teammate quickly stole the spotlight.
In a TikTok video shared August 31, the 43-year-old filmed Venus and Leylah in action before turning the camera on herself. She dramatically rolled her eyes, then forced a playful smile while darting her gaze back and forth.
“When you see your sister @VenusWilliams has a new doubles partner @leylahanniefernandez,” Serena captioned, “and you are really happy she’s winning with someone else.”
Though joking in her reaction, Serena has always been Venus’ biggest cheerleader. The two share an iconic history together, winning **14 women’s doubles Grand Slam titles**. Just days earlier, Serena had praised Venus with a heartfelt Instagram post after her singles loss to Karolína Muchová, writing:
“Strength, courage, determination, class, perseverance, inspiration… there’s not enough words to describe how proud I am of you @VenusWilliams. P.S. I hope to be like you.”
For her part, Venus has often expressed how much Serena means to her. Speaking to *E! News* in 2022, she said, *“She’s been my role model. No one knows more what I’m going through than she does. She understands me without even saying a word. I can’t imagine doing this without her.”*
