2025 NBA Playoff Bracket: First-Round Matchups, Schedule, and Game Times as Knicks and Nuggets Jump to 1-0 Series Leads
The 2025 NBA playoffs are officially underway. With the Play-In Tournament complete, the Warriors, Magic, Heat, and Grizzlies have claimed the final spots in the 16-team field. All eight first-round series are set, with playoff action beginning this weekend. Saturday opened with four matchups: Pacers vs. Bucks, Nuggets vs. Clippers, Knicks vs. Pistons, and Lakers vs. Timberwolves.
Sunday will see the remaining series tip off: Thunder vs. Grizzlies, Cavaliers vs. Heat, Celtics vs. Magic, and Warriors vs. Rockets.
The Western Conference features some especially compelling first-round showdowns. The seventh-seeded, playoff-hardened Warriors are actually favored against the young but talented second-seeded Rockets. Meanwhile, the Lakers faced the Timberwolves, with Luka Dončić making his playoff debut against Anthony Edwards, Rudy Gobert, and a Minnesota team he eliminated last year with the Mavericks. The 4-5 series between the Nuggets and Clippers looks like a toss-up, pitting Nikola Jokić against Kawhi Leonard in a battle of superstars.
Over in the East, experts predict a relatively straightforward first round. The Cavaliers and Celtics are expected to take care of business against the Heat and Magic, respectively. Although the Knicks lost their regular-season series to the Pistons, New York is a strong favorite to advance and potentially set up a second-round clash with Boston. Meanwhile, the Bucks and Pacers renew their rivalry in the 4-5 series, but Milwaukee will be missing Damian Lillard to start the matchup.
